Student: How do I find the slope of y = x² − 6x + 5 at x = 4? I'm stuck.
Sage: Let's break it down. The slope of a curve at any point comes from differentiating it.
What do you get when you differentiate y?
Student: dy/dx = 2x − 6?
Sage: Spot on! That gives the slope at any x.
So what is the slope when x = 4?

Does my child need my permission?
If they're under 16, yes. After signing up, they type in your email and Sage sends you a link. They can't use Sage, even the free chat, until you say yes. 16 and 17 year olds don't need permission, but a parent pays.
Who pays, and how?
Under 18s: a parent pays, using a link Sage emails them. 18 and over: the student pays. Payment is through Stripe. It's €9.99 a month, taken in advance each month from the day you buy.
How do I cancel?
Email hello@studysage.online. The plan runs to the end of the month you've paid for, then stops. No extra charges. You can also withdraw your permission from your email link at any time; access stops at once, but email us too so the payments stop.
Can I see my child's chats?
No. Parents don't get a view of chats or activity, and Sage doesn't send you reports. If a message suggests someone may be at risk, Sage shows support numbers straight away and a trained person at Sage may read that one message.
What data does Sage keep?
An email address, first name, age group, the questions typed, any homework photos and progress. No ads, and data is never sold. Replies are written by Sage's AI provider, Anthropic. See the privacy notice.
Can AI tutoring replace a teacher?
No. Sage is an AI, so it can be wrong, and it doesn't know your child's class, teacher or exact texts. It's best for practice and getting unstuck. Check anything important with a teacher.
Who's behind Sage
Sage is made by Mr Jupe, a practising secondary school teacher in Ireland.
Sage's subject guides are built from the NCCA course specifications and SEC exam papers and marking schemes. Where a course is changing, Sage uses the version for your year.
